Steve Fishwick (L) w. Osian Roberts (R)
Steve is universally acknowledged to be one of the best trumpeters operating in jazz; Wynton Marsalis has been moved to comment on his unique skills. Steve has worked with the finest players, both here and in the US; he played for Anita O'Day on her final recording, and has performed with Scott Hamilton, Lew Soloff and many others. He is well known to us through his finely-honed bop quintet, co-led with Osian Roberts; they have recorded in New York with piano legend Cedar Walton.
Tonight's band, however, is a new line-up with a contemporary edge, and features Steve's twin brother Matt, who has combined membership of the bop quintet with a five-year stint living and playing in New York.
Joining them are three of the leading players on the UK scene; Tom is the keyboard player for Acoustic Ladyland, while his own trio Curios were voted Best Band in the 2008 British Jazz Awards. He also plays in a duo with Kit Downes.
Ross is another highly accomplished young player who has already chalked up appearances with Liane Carroll, Dennis Rollins, Guy Barker, Ian Shaw, Stan Sulzmann, Bobby Wellins and Steve Argüelles, and is a regular member of the Jim Mullen Organ Trio. He's also gigged widely alongside Tim in the Dylan Howe Quartet.
Tim studied with Arnie Somogyi and Mark Hodgson, and has gigged with a wide variety of performers including Sir Willard White and NYJO, plus a host of bandleaders such as Gareth Lockrane and Liam Noble; he's also now leading his own quintet.
